KCPE 2023 Top Candidates Nationally

Michael Warutere from Riara Springs emerged the best student in the KCPE 2023 exams with 428 marks out of 500 marks.

Only 8,525 out of 1,460,557 candidates scored over 400 marks in the 2023 KCPE examination, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said at the new Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in South B, Nairobi.

The commencement of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (#KCPE2023) national exams on Monday, October 30 and this year’s result announcement marks the end of the Class Eight national exams and the full entrance of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the consequent Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).

The first 8-4-4 class was examined in 1985 while the 2023 class was the last and 39th, just one short of 40 years. The end of the 8-4-4 era at primary school level fully ushers in the competency-based curriculum (CBC) as well as the competency-based assessment (CBA).

After 38 years, the curtains finally fall on the Kenya Certificate for Primary Education Examinations (KCPE) exams as the last cohort results was released today.

Some 1,415, 315 candidates sat the last KCPE as the nearly four decades old 8-4-4 system is phased out.
