A 17-year-old girl at Ung’atani Primary School in Kathozweni Sub County gave birth to a baby girl at the Makueni County Referral Hospital last night.

The standard 8 pupil gave birth in the Mother and Child section at 9 p.m. on Sunday and is said to be in good health with her baby.

“The girl is in good health, and she is sitting for mathematics paper this morning and later English and composition,” said Makueni County Director of Education (CDE) Mr. Charles Nyakundi while talking to KNA on the telephone on Monday.

Nyakundi said that the centre managers in the nine subcounties across the county have collected the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) kicked off well without any problems.

He further added that transport arrangements, security, supervisors, and invigilators are all ready to conduct the examinations in the county.

Meanwhile, parents, teachers, and pupils in Makueni Sub County who will engage in examination malpractices will face dire consequences from the government, area Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Joel Mwangala has warned.

Mwangala gave the warning outside the Makueni County Commissioner’s office in Wote town while issuing KCPE and KPSEA examination papers to centre managers on Monday morning.

“Parents, teachers, and pupils should not try to cheat during examinations. You will find the examination is fake, there will be costs, and you risk being arrested and prosecuted,” warned Mwangala.

“This should be rebuked strongly, and we don’t want people to even try,” reiterated the administrator.

Present at the distribution container were Makueni Sub-County Director of Education Yobesh Onduso Magara and his counterpart, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Edward Dzani.

It should be observed that 26,835 and 34,794 and 30,149 candidates will sit for the KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE examinations, respectively, in the county. Currently, languages like French and German,  besides home science, are ongoing in secondary school.

KCSE, on the other hand, begins on November 6th and runs through November 24th, 2023.
