CS Magoha issues warning over KCSE ‘leakages’ and fake papers

Education officials have discovered that fake examination papers were still circulating in some parts of the country.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha said that some centre managers were confusing students by waking them up at night to do fake examinations only to find out that the real papers were different from the circulated fake papers.

Magoha made the remarks today when he officiated the opening of examination papers in Homa Bay County Headquarters.

Magoha said that despite several attempts by some candidates to cheat in the examinations, the integrity of the examinations was still intact. “We are not going to allow anything to jeopardize the integrity of our examinations,’ he said.

The CS who was accompanied by Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan said that despite several attempts by candidates to cheat during examinations, the security agents are quite on top of the process and so far no candidate has had undue advantage.

He further disclosed that due to laxity of some examination staff, students have smuggled phones into examination rooms with the help of some officials but the security agents have been able to track down and retrieve the phones.

He revealed that yesterday in one of the schools, a candidate was assisted by an examination official to smuggle a phone in the exam room and was able to take photographs and send to someone outside who did the exam and sent the answers back through the phone.

The candidate was found and arrested but was allowed back to sit for the exam in the morning and will be taken to court in the afternoon and thereafter be allowed to continue with the examination.

“The integrity of the examination is totally unquestionable and our security agents are quite on top of this process,” Magoha said.

He further blamed some university students and teachers outside who are paid to do the exams and send them to candidates.

The cabinet secretary added that if a candidate has cheated in one or two areas, he will eventually be caught during the marking of the papers.

“From this moment please do the exams the way they are supposed to be done and if you are bold enough to cheat, then the choice is yours and you will face the consequences,” he Warned.

The County Commissioner Moses Lilan also advised security agents to be vigilant at all times during the examination period.

He cautioned them that they would be disciplined if at all examination irregularities are discovered.
